Wolves GM David Kahn said it’s likely he’ll make a trade by the deadline, “but it won’t be big.” He suggested the move would be “surgical” and “tactical.” He also said he’s not looking to trade Corey Brewer and said he hasn’t decided Brewer isn’t part of the team’s future just because Brewer didn’t get a contract extension last fall. Euro star guard wants to play for Miami Heat?

Enter Ricky Rubio, the No. 5 overall choice in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He, too, apparently, would not mind being part of the Miami Heat mix. Over the weekend, in a New York Times piece on the creative Spanish League point guard, a senior member of Rubio’s entourage was quoted as saying, “The bottom line is, why would he want to play in Minnesota? “He’ll continue to say all the diplomatic things, and Minnesota needs to keep his value up for trade purposes, but the family’s preference is to be on the East Coast, specifically New York, Miami or Boston.” New York we know has trade chips, considering the Knicks already have put them into play for Carmelo Anthony. The Celtics certainly have attractive, if not aging pieces, unless Rajon Rondo is put into play, which would appear a stretch. The Heat? Well, there is Mike Miller, who already has done a tour in Minnesota. There is Udonis Haslem, who hardly would be a fit for a team that already has Michael Beasley and Kevin Love. — South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Wolves Kevin Love on history making road?

Timberwolves forward Kevin Love is averaging 21.3 and 15 rebounds per game. The last player to average 20-plus points and 15-plus rebounds over the course of an NBA season was Moses Malone with the 76ers in 1982-83. No player in NBA history has both averaged 12 rebounds per game and shot better than 40 percent from three-point range in the same season. Love leads the league at 15.6 rebounds per game and is shooting 43.7 percent from long range, 11th in the NBA. Love also leads the league in NBA’s efficiency rating at 29.0. It’s a figure based on the formula of points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, missed field goals, missed free throws and turnovers. — Star Tribune
