Vikings stadium might not be fixed until August?

Metrodome repairs could take until April if only the five ruptured panels need replacing. Or could be until August if it’s decided that a new roof is necessary. The big differences from the early ’80s episodes are twofold. Much more of the air-supported roof was torn up in the Dec. 11-12 blizzard than in earlier snowstorms, said Steve Maki, Dome facilities and engineering director. And the once state-of-the-art roof is 30 years older and showing its age. “We’ve had much more damage, so we’re being more cautious and prudent,” said Maki, who has overseen the Dome’s operations since the mid-1980s. “And given the age of the roof, we’re trying to determine if there is any damage to other panels.” — Star Tribune

Vikings star expected to get $50 million extension?

The way it looks now, the Vikings’ priority signings are Chad Greenway and Sidney Rice, both of whom could become free agents this spring depending on how the NFL labor issue turns out. Then, Adrian Peterson is expected to receive a five-year contract in the $50 million range, with at least half guaranteed. Secondary signing considerations would seem to be Ryan Longwell and Brian Robison. And it wouldn’t be surprising if the Vikings released Madieu Williams and Bernard Berrian. — Pioneer Press

Former Vikings player a millionaire ‘several times over’ thanks to fan

John Beasley was a tight end for the Minnesota Vikings from 1967 through 1973. He was a rookie during Bud Grant’s first year as coach. His rookie teammates included Alan Page. An eighth-round draft pick out of California Berkley in 1967, Beasley received a degree in agricultural economics. Then he received a signing bonus of $6,600 and a first-year salary of $13,500. Beasley was paid $45,000 his final season in 1974 with the New Orleans Saints. Beasley was the Vikings’ starting tight end in Super Bowl IV that Kansas City won in January 1970 in New Orleans. The exposure prompted a letter to Beasley from a fellow named Dr. Joe Beasley Jr. of Lovelock, Nev. Dr. Joe thought he and John were related. “But we were not,” John said. Find out how that letter from Dr. Beasley would turn the Vikings tight end to a millionaire several times over.

Former Vikings coach could join Rams?

One possible Pat Shurmur replacement for the Rams could be Brad Childress, who is one of Steve Spagnuolo’s best friends in the business. Childress and Spagnuolo spent seven seasons together on Andy Reid’s staff in Philadelphia. But after a tough finish to his 4½-year tenure as head coach in Minnesota, does Childress want to get back in coaching right away? According to reports out of Minnesota, he is still due $6.6 million on his Vikings contract, so Childress could sit out a year or two to re-charge the batteries. With Childress, the Rams would be able to run their existing West Coast scheme.  — St. Louis Post-Dispatch
