Carrot Top wants to dump props

Prop comedian Carrot Top is considering a run at stand up comedy WITHOUT his famous props. LAS VEGAS WEEKLY reports that Scott Thompson, the real name of the Vegas headliner, wants to do a show without the help of movable objects.

“I’ve always wanted to do a segment on a talk show. Jay Leno has been such a good friend, and if he would allow me, I’d have to get it all together, but I’d like to go on The Tonight Show and do a set with no props. Or come out with a trunk and never touch it. Or come out with a clear trunk with nothing in it. I’d love to see people react to seeing me do stand-up.”

One other interesting nugget from this article, Carrot Top’s father Larry was a NASA engineer who worked on the space shuttle program and trained astronauts.

Legendary rocker serving food in Vegas jail

Vince Neil of Mötley Crüe, whose biggest hit was “Dr. Feelgood,” can’t be feeling too great as he nears the halfway point of his two-week jail sentence. He volunteered for jail duties in hopes it will reduce his sentence. As a result, he’s serving breakfast to his 4,000 fellow inmates every morning starting at 4 a.m., lunch at 10 a.m. and dinner at 4 p.m., in addition to mopping and vacuuming floors and cleaning showers. Mötley Crüe’s last top 40 hit, “Home Sweet Home,” in early 1992, will probably never sound sweeter to Neil. — Las Vegas Review-Journal

UNLV could get 40,000-seat domed football stadium

The proposal I am referring to would build a 40,000-seat domed stadium and accompanying facilities at UNLV. Last week, the Nevada Board of Regents voted 11-1 to negotiate exclusively with Ed Roski and Craig Cavileer of Majestic Realty. Roski owns the Silverton hotel-casino in Las Vegas and is a part owner of the Los Angeles Lakers. He helped build the Staples Center in L.A. Cavileer is the Silverton’s president. Certainly every developer still seeking to build an arena or stadium in Las Vegas can make a case that his plan is the best. The ones still on the table include the Caesars Entertainment project in the resort corridor, the IDM/Cordish project in downtown’s Symphony Park and the Olympia project at the south end of the valley. But for me, at least, none of them offers the range of community benefits that the UNLV project does. One of the main advantages of the UNLV project is it would bring the university’s football games to the campus where they belong. No more commuting through seven miles of traffic to play at Sam Boyd Stadium. This move would give a tremendous psychological and financial boost to UNLV athletics. — Las Vegas Review-Journal
