Gardenhire: Twins didn’t star Liriano trade rumors

Francisco Liriano signed a one-year, $4.3 million deal on Feb. 6, though many thought the Twins might try to wrap him up long term, as they did with young starters Scott Baker in 2009 and Nick Blackburn last season. That led to rumors that the Twins were fielding trade offers for the 27-year-old lefty, who fanned a career-high 201 batters last season. “It came up by (the media); that’s a shocker,” Gardenhire said of the trade reports. “It didn’t come up by us. That’s the thing about it: Everybody’s names come up in trades. I mean, I can tell you a thousand guys I would love to have and we can start all kinds of rumors, but that doesn’t mean that we started it. “There is a wish list on every team in baseball, and I’m sure there are a lot of people that would like Liriano. Trades come about, but we didn’t talk about it; you guys did.” Asked if he could see himself in another uniform, Liriano said, “Nah, not now.” — Pioneer Press
