NFL coach manages big league club

Bucs head coach Raheem Morris made his managerial debut during a grapefruit league game on Tuesday. Joe Madden tapped Morris as the Tampa Bay Rays manager for a day. Raheem, had many highlights, including when he starter James Shields from the game.Morris told the ST. PETERSBURG TIMES he was fired up to get the chance in the dugout

“I’m 1-0,” Morris said. “It was awesome, man. The best part about it was being down there and listening to those guys go through the strategy and go through all the motions, it really made me feel a part of the game. Skipper says HR derby should settle tie spring games

Rays skipper Joe Maddon had a smile on his face when he said baseball should let sluggers from teams that tie spring training games to decide the winner via a home run derby. Maddon, a big NHL fan, jokingly told the ST. PETERSBURG TIMES his idea:

“Take the hockey concept,” Maddon said. “Have your two best power hitters, take one of the coaches, come out and throw some nice (batting practice pitches). I think the fans may enjoy something like that.”
