Bengals Ochocinco giving West Virginia WR advice

West Virginia freshman wide receiver Ivan McCartney is getting some high-powered advice these days. “Be great at whatever you do,” McCartney’s cousin has told him. “Work harder than anyone in the nation.” Who is McCartney’s cousin? None other than Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver and reality TV star Chad Ochocinco. McCartney is listening to Ochocinco, but he is still his own person. McCartney had the opportunity to choose jersey No. 85 like his cousin, but he instead selected Pat White’s old number (5). “If I would’ve chosen 85, everyone would’ve known me as Chad Ochocinco,” McCartney said. “I wanted to make my own legacy.” McCartney, a U.S. Army All-American from Miramar (Fla.) High, said he doesn’t have the mentality of most wide receivers. “I’m not a very cocky and arrogant person,” he said. “We all work together.” — Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

Source: NFL star made up assault story on Twitter

Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco remained mum when asked about the “fight” he tweeted about having on Sunday night. At about 1 a.m. that night, he tweeted: “Damn, I just got in a fight with the bouncer, them damn boxing sessions got me on point, at least the police let me keep tweetin in the car?” Soon after, he followed up with this tweet: “Aww man NYPD is so awesome we are all headed to Starbucks after we drop the bouncer off at the police station for an assault on me.” The next morning, he claimed the entire thing was a joke in his final tweet on the matter: “lmao, that’s the power of twitter, that was all a joke last night.” Ochocinco was asked about the situation three times on Monday, but he wasn’t permitted to comment, with a PR person rushing in to end the discussion each time. The Cincinnati Bengals declined comment, as did a VH1 representative. But NYPD officials told the Daily News they found no evidence that an incident had occurred. “He made it up,” a police source said. – NY DAILY NEWS

NFL star will be first athlete with his own iPad app

After two reality shows and his own iPhone application, Chad Ochocinco is ready to invade your iPad. The Bengals receiver will be the first athlete with his own app for Apple’s tablet device. It’s expected to hit the app store this week. Both apps were created by Rock Software, which is part owned by Bengals quarterback Jordan Palmer. The company made its first splash last year during an episode of “Hard Knocks: Training Camp” when Palmer demonstrated an app which offers the best times to take bathroom breaks during movies. While some iPad apps are a carbon copy of their iPhone counterparts, the Ochocinco app is completely different. While his iPhone app, which has over 300,000 downloads, might appeal only to football fans, his iPad app has something for everyone, according to Rock Software President/CEO John Shahidi. Among this app’s features: Promoting Ochocinco’s upcoming VH1 show “The Ultimate Catch.” The app will have a bracket and profiles of the contestants on the dating reality show, which begins Sunday. – Cincinnati Enquirer
