Pats coach Bill Belichick asked about Ochocinco

Coach Bill Belichick was asked about Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco, who has expressed a desire to hook up with the Patriots and a coach he has great respect for in Belichick. The Pats coach didn’t want to discuss Ochocinco, given the player is still under contract, except to say, “he’s an outstanding player, there’s no question about that.” — Boston Herald

Bengals decide Ochocinco’s future?

The Bengals are sending out mixed signals on wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, so are they are going to cancel his decade-long reality TV now and go with the Sesame Street young receivers? There is a school of thought out there that believes the Bengals already exercised the team option on The Ocho and he’s under contract for ’11. That would mean there would be no timetable for a decision and if anybody is looking to get him they may have to trade for him. Plus, the Bengals are going to make sure all their ducks are healthy, lined up, and ready to go if he’s not coming back. So that may linger awhile. — Bengals.com

Ochocinco not sure if he’ll return to Bengals

Bengals WR Ochocinco on next season: “I’d love to see Terrell come back next year. As far as myself, I don’t even know if I’ll be back next year. … Changes will be made and they’ll be significant.” Publicly, during his weekly Wednesday locker room sessions, Ochocinco has sounded somewhat confident about being back next year (even when others have said it is unlikely the club would pick up the $6 million option). So, this is at least the first public statement where 85 is acknowledging that a tidal wave of changes are coming. It’s also a public acknowledgement by Ochocinco that his powers of influence inside the organization are no longer there. — Cincinnati Enquirer

Bengals Ochocinco could change teams?

The Bengals have lost 10 straight this season and Ochocinco might not be back with the Bengals. “Aw, man, it’s been tough,” he said. “It’s been tough just trying to find ways to continue to keep myself motivated, continue to keep myself smiling. I’m trying to be part of the solution and not the problem. I’m doing everything I can to stay positive. It’s really hard, especially when you lose week in and week out. It’s really stressful, man.” So nothing fun planned for the Browns’ defensive backs? No special celebrations for the game? “We’re 2-11,” he said. “Ain’t nothing I can do that’s going to get me motivated or to have fun, it’s backwards.” But 85, we’ve never heard you like this before. “It wears on you after 10 years,” he said. — Cleveland Plain Dealer

Bengals Ochocinco says he needs more trash talk to end slump

Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco said Wednesday that he needs to raise his level of play and believes part of that resurgence requires him to start talking more. “I haven’t been Chad at all,” said Ochocinco. “I’ve been quiet. There’s no bulletin board material. There’s no excitement leading up to the game. There’s no trash talking, there’s no fun. Right now I’m not playing with confidence. Zero, zilch.” Ochocinco and Terrell Owens were joined by safety Roy Williams, defensive end Antwan Odom and running back Bernard Scott as those who did not practice Wednesday. The Bengals have a bye this week.  “Usually my confidence is built over me saying things and forcing myself to back up what I say,” said Ochocinco. “I look at myself and have evaluated myself after five weeks and the numbers are down. Not drastically down but I need to play better and that’s what it’s all about.” — Cincinnati Enquirer

Entertainment Tonight anchor hosting Terrell Owens, Chad Ochocinco show

Kevin Frazier is taking a busman’s holiday of sorts on his old turf as studio host for Versus’ college football games and, beginning next week, as host for the T.Ocho Show, featuring Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco, at 10:30 p.m. Tuesdays on Versus. “I have a long history with TO and ET,” Frazier said. “He’s one of the few athletes we covered a lot. When he was in Philadelphia, there was an infamous moment where he wouldn’t talk to anybody but did talk to ET, and it was funny to see ESPN running me talking to TO on ET. I never thought I’d see that. “Now Chad has crossed over into our world. Both those guys have been painted with a brush of being wild cards, and now they’re seen as being unfiltered and taking advantage of this revolution in which athletes can have their say with Twitter and Facebook to walk away from their personality on the field.” Frazier said his ET career has been, to put it mildly, “interesting and different.” “It’s shown me another side of our interesting culture,” he said. “I don’t think, being a sportscaster, that you understand women, and now I work for the ultimate women’s show. It’s not about going to see Kobe Bryant but about the dress that Penelope Cruz was wearing last night.” — Houston Chronicle

Phone Sex number on NFL stars cereal box temporarily disconnected

The Ochocinco cereal box phone sex number seemed to have been at least temporarily disconnected by Thursday afternoon, but it wasn’t because Ty Ballou or Feed the Children made a deal with its owner. Ballou said so many people were calling the number and hanging up without paying that he believes the owner disconnected the line. It was back up and running when we tried the number this morning. Ballou said that Feed the Children has identified the person who owns the line and the two are trying to figure out if they can buy the number. If they can’t, Ballou said some of his profits from the 40,000 boxes of OchocincO’s cereal that his company has already sold will be eaten. As of now, 26,000 boxes with the wrong phone number will be stored in the back rooms at the Kroger’s super markets. If a deal can’t be reached soon on the number, Ballou said he’ll agree to donate the cereal to Feed the Children and then make Kroger whole for its losses. Luckily, for Ballou, all was not lost. He said his Web site was slammed with people order OchocincO’s, even though they were told that the boxes would have the correct number for the charity printed on it. – CNBC

Ochocinco blames Pittsburgh for sex line cereal

Boxes of Chad Ochocinco cereal are being removed from Kroger store shelves after a phone number on the package meant to direct consumers to a children’s charity connects callers to an explicit phone sex line. Robert Bailey, president of Rosenhaus Sports, which represents Ochocinco, said Ochocinco expects the correct number will appear on new cereal boxes. “We greatly regret the mistake and the trouble it has caused, but Chad himself was in no way involved in this error,” Bailey said.

Bengals Ochocinco has touchdown plan with Patriots mascot

Patriots coach Bill Belichick said he had a good relationship with Ochocinco, and he knows all about how the Bengals star receiver likes to bait his opponents into verbal wars. Last week Ochocinco said that he planned on grabbing a musket from one of the Patriot minutemen mascots if he scores a touchdown Sunday. In response to that, Belichick said: “We’ll have to pick up a game plan for that one. I haven’t been working on that yet.” — Providence Journal
