Jets may keep Antonio Cromartie?

The Jets, according to team sources, have not definitively decided to cut ties with Antonio Cromartie, one of several key free agents on their roster that decisions need to be made on. Cromartie, though, is not the top priority to sign. As multiple outlets, including The Post, have reported since the end of the season, receiver Santonio Holmes is the team’s top priority to re-sign. Former Jets quarterback Ray Lucas checked into Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches, a West Palm Beach, Fla., drug rehabilitation center, on Friday to kick the painkiller addiction he developed during his NFL career. Lucas has decided to write about his journey through drug rehab on Facebook to draw attention to what he calls the NFL’s indifference to retirees’ chronic health problems and to encourage other retirees with addiction problems to seek help. He also wants to promote Pain Alternatives Solutions and Treatment, the New Jersey medical group that has provided Lucas and other needy former athletes with pro bono surgery and care. “PAST saved my life,” Lucas says. Lucas is being assisted by Randy Grimes, the former Tampa Bay center who helped beat his own painkiller dependency thanks to BHOP and PAST and now works as a counselor for BHOP. — NY Daily News

Jets to franchise tag defensive player?

It appears Jets linebacker David Harris, the team’s highest-priority free agent, has a good chance of having a franchise tag placed on him, according to reports. Harris, voted team MVP, is due to become a free agent when and if a collective-bargaining agreement is reached. Harris, who had 99 tackles and three sacks in his fourth season, was called a “priority” to re-sign by Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum recently. Placing the tag on Harris would lock him up for the year and stall the process of signing him to a long-term deal. It would pay him the average salary of the five top-paid players at his position, which would be around $10 million. — NY Post

The Pro Bowl receiver made at least 10 foot references in a press conference in the wake of Ryan’s alleged foot fetish video with his wife. Welker told the Boston Herald that he regrets his actions.”Yeah, sure I do,” Welker said on his way to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. “I’m not going to get into any details about it, but I don’t think it’s worth putting (Bill Belichick) in that situation. So in a sense, I do regret it. As much as you might want to get enticed into that stuff, at the end of the day, it’s just not worth it.” — NY Daily News
