Study: 90% of U.S. Golfers May Be Playing With the Wrong Equipment for Their Swing

A new, wide-ranging study reveals a golfer’s natural ability and swing are not the only things holding them back; 90% of U.S. golfers may be playing with clubs that do not fit them properly.  Nearly 6,000 avid golfers across the country took part in the survey.  The findings show players who were custom fit using advanced technology such as launch monitors, saw scores improve, hit the ball more accurately and had more fun playing golf than golfers who were not custom fit.   The findings were unveiled today at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida.  — Sports Illustrated Golf Group

4% of American sports fans call soccer favorite

According to the Sports Business Journal, soccer ranks as the seventh most popular sport among U.S. fans of at least one sport.  Using data taken from a Harris Poll, the report shows that 4% selected men’s soccer as their favorite sport in 2010, a one percent increase from 1985. That number is dwarfed by the 31% who picked professional American football and even the 17% who prefer baseball (a 6% drop since 1985). In fact, men’s soccer barely makes it higher than the 3% who weren’t sure which sport was their favorite. — Peace FM Online

LPGA lets those born as men compete

Players on the LPGA tour will no longer have to be female at birth. At a year-end meeting Tuesday before this week’s LPGA Tour Championship in Orlando, players voted to change the association’s constitution and allow transgender women a chance to compete on the tour. “The players voted in favor of amending the LPGA Constitution, eliminating the requirement that competitors must be ‘female at birth,’ ” LPGA Commissioner Michael Whan said in a statement. “Steps will be taken in the coming weeks to make the appropriate changes in the language of the Constitution.” — USA Today
