Dolphins should give former owner more credit?

Tim Robbie, son of longtime Dolphins owner Joe Robbie, the guy who got the stadium built in South Florida. Tim was asked by WQAM about his dad’s legacy in Miami sports.

“I think as time has passed, it’s kind of sad that more credit isn’t given to him. I think that statue is a good example. You know, that have that 15- to 20-foot statue of him, and it’s kind of tucked back where unless you stumble upon it, you’re not going to really see it. It needs to be more prominently displayed. You know, the name thing, I have people come up to me all the time and say, ‘I still call it Joe Robbie Stadium.’ And that’s always nice to hear. I think there are probably more people down here that call it Joe Robbie Stadium than any of the other five names that they’ve had since then.”

Dolphins adding Bryan Cox to coaching staff?

Bryan Cox, who was named to three Pro Bowls during a successful five-year stint as a linebacker for the Dolphins, interviewed this week to join coach Tony Sparano’s staff, sources said Wednesday. The specialized capacity of his role is unknown. A fifth-round draft pick by the Dolphins in 1991, Cox most recently was a defensive line coach in Cleveland since 2009, but he was among the staff’s casualties in the wake of last month’s firing of head coach Eric Mangini. Cox got his start in coaching as an assistant defensive line coach for the Jets from 2006 to 2008. He has made a solid impression on players, especially given his playing experience. — Miami Herald
