Cowboys might dump offensive star?

Cowboys RB Marion Barber should be the first player shown the door. He is the rare running back with no elusiveness and minimal power. His main contribution is as a blocker. The excessive-celebration penalty that he took in the Arizona loss should have been the last straw. He’s a team captain — go figure that one — and does a completely selfish act for which the team suffered. No excuse for that. — Dallas Morning News

Cowboys could dump veteran offensive star?

The Cowboys must resolve Roy Williams’ status. He’s paid like a lead receiver but is a clear and distant third in the pecking order. If he’s unwilling to take a pay cut, the club faces a difficult decision. Marion Barber not in Cowboys plans?

Cowboys RB Marion Barber, the honorary starter, continued his downward arc. He averaged 3.3 yards per carry, third-lowest rate among the 47 backs with at least 100 rushes. In the best of times, Barber counted on power to make up for a lack of elusiveness. Now, the power has noticeably diminished. Barber picked up a first down only 11 times in 17 carries on third- and fourth-and-one plays. Barber’s future with the club is uncertain. — Dallas Morning News

Jerry Jones: Still looking for right sponsor for Cowboys Stadium

In an age when owners routinely sell the naming rights of their facilities to the highest bidder, Jerry Jones has yet to do so with Cowboys Stadium, to the surprise of some. But Jones said the billion-dollar sports structure, and the name attached to it, have helped promote the Cowboys brand. “The idea of this being Cowboys Stadium was appealing,” he said. “It is important to us to have people talking about the Cowboys.” … “But I have always said that unless we were ready in the right way with the right partner,” Jones said, “then Cowboys Stadium is the way we wanted it.”– Dallas Morning News

Cowboys star could stay with pay cut

Roy Williams will have a chance to remain with this Cowboys  team if he takes a pay cut. Will he do it? Should he do it? It’s hard to say. He has said he would like to finish his career here, but at what price? In my mind, there is a chance Williams stays. But so much baggage has been associated with his stay here – much of it not of his own doing – that it may be best for the two sides to part amicably and to plug a younger player into that spot. — Dallas Morning News

Cowboys owner says this Super Bowl ‘should be the best ever’ in financial numbers

Super Bowl XLV already is being billed as the “biggest and best,” with a crowd of 105,000 expected Sunday, including 5,000 fans in the exterior party zone. The record of 103,895 was set at the Rose Bowl in Super Bowl XIV in 1980. “I think we’ve got a good chance to break the record without counting anything outside,” Jones said. “The stadium is certified for 111,700. When we built this stadium, I had in mind being able to reach those kinds of numbers. “It’s meaningful. We want to be recognized as the place that you can have a Super Bowl where the most people come. I also think that it’s important for the NFL. This is a great opportunity for a lot more people to get to participate in our game.” Because no other NFL stadium can accommodate as many people as Cowboys Stadium, this is expected to be the first of many Super Bowls in Arlington. — Fort Worth Star-Telegram
