Knicks won’t be employing hard-fouls on Clips Blake Griffin

The Griffin Rules? Eventually, some NBA team is sure to adopt them, perhaps when Blake Griffin leads the Clippers into the playoffs. But you won’t see Mike D’Antoni employ a hard-foul philosophy against the high-flying rookie, who makes his Garden debut Wednesday night against the Knicks . “I think you have to be very careful about that,” D’Antoni said after yesterday’s practice. “I think you should outplay him and outhustle him and out-position him . . . You have to play tough and it will happen.” But should the fact that Griffin shoots only 60.7 percent from the foul line (which suggests employing a Hack-a-Blake strategy) play a factor in the game plan against him? The Knicks have to be aware of how Griffin can change momentum with just one dunk. — Newsday

NBA veteran doesn’t think Clippers Blake Griffin should be All-Star

Anger over LaMarcus Aldridge’s omission surfaced in Portland almost immediately at the Trail Blazers’ practice but not from the snubbed player. It was from Griffin’s nemesis, Andre Miller. A former Clipper, Miller, who was suspended for a game after smashing into Griffin, declared that the young guys were getting too much respect in the NBA. “They are putting this guy on every ESPN highlight,” he said to the Oregonian. “Yeah, it’s cool because fans want to see that, but you isolate him from his team. Especially … he ain’t made nobody better. It’s basically his rookie year, as an All-Star? LeBron James didn’t make an All-Star team as a rookie.” Miller added that he wasn’t “a hater.” — LA Times

Clippers can’t reach magical number

The Bulls’ victory at Staples Center ended the Clippers’ nine-game home-winning streak. The Clippers haven’t won ten straight home games since they won 11 in a row in San Diego during the 1978-79 season (Feb. 15-March 18). Since then, every NBA team has posted at least one double-digit home-winning streak with the exception of the Clippers and Bobcats (who entered the league in 2004-05). — Elias Sports Bureau

NBA rookies phones go dead, can’t get good news

On Tuesday, Eric Bledsoe was among the 18 players selected for the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam on Feb. 18. That’s the game for rookies and second-year players. Unfortunately, no one could tell Bledsoe the news. “My phones were dead and Coach Vinny [Del Negro] was trying to get in touch with me,” Bledsoe said Wednesday. “Him and Neil [Olshey]. So they called my agent and ended up calling my mom. “My mom [Maureen] was just going at me. I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ I went on Twitter and saw everybody congratulating.” It’s fairly likely Bledsoe will be the only Clipper in that game. Blake Griffin, of course, was among the 18 named but he has a jam-packed All-Star break, with the emphasis on jam. — LA Times

Warriors Stephen Curry to Clippers?

Warriors guard Stephen Curry is younger, is an elite shooter, shares the ball and isn’t owed big long-term money. He would be extremely attractive on the trade market. The point is, if the Warriors need to move somebody to land a big-man difference-maker, their other options are limited. So how would the Warriors possibly make the move for a big man? By dangling Curry or Ellis. It’s not preferable, but teams don’t offer up good young centers for mediocre players. This might not happen by Feb. 24, but the Warriors have to do the groundwork now. Mavericks coach accuses Clippers star of “cheap shot”

Tempers flared in the final quarter when Baron Davis and Dallas Coach Rick Carlisle received technicals with 8:40 remaining after their angry exchange. It started after Davis fouled Jose Barea. “Words I can’t use,” said Davis, who had 21 points and six assists. “He basically thought I took a cheap shot on Barea. Barea was flopping the whole night and he flopped on that play. So when Carlisle looked at me, ‘That was a dirty play.’ “I was like, ‘No it wasn’t. This dude is flopping.’ I guess he felt like he was protecting his player. So I told him to … ” Barea said he thought that the exchange between Davis and Carlisle was “awesome.” Said Barea: “I didn’t have to go down but when you get hit like that, you go down. It’s basketball.” Apparently Davis got in the last word. Or words. “He started cussing me out,” Davis said. “I told him, ‘Go have some lunch.’” — LA Times

Clippers young star “too young” to know about Patrick Ewing

Wally Pipp was lost on 22-year-old DeAndre Jordan. Frankly, the old-school reference might have been lost on Jordan’s parents. But then the Clippers’ locker room skews quite young. Blake Griffin, 21, was educating some of his youthful teammates on a road trip about semi-recent NBA draft history and the career of Patrick Ewing. “I’m too young” to know about Ewing, Jordan said to a couple of reporters.
