Bucs head coach Raheem Morris made his managerial debut during a grapefruit league game on Tuesday. Joe Madden tapped Morris as the Tampa Bay Rays manager for a day. Former NFL player has 30 days to work out deal before facing trial on drug charges

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Jerramy Stevens has 30 days to work out a deal with prosecutors before facing a possible trial on drug charges. At a hearing on Tuesday, Judge Steven Stephens granted a request by Stevens’ attorney, Mark O’Brien, for a pre-trial conference to be schedule within 30 days. Stevens is charged with possession of marijuana, a third-degree felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, stemming from an Oct. 23 arrest. The Hillsborough County State Attorney’s office decided not to pursue a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, O’Brien said. “It was not filed against him and appropriately so,” O’Brien said. — Tampa Tribune

Bucs coach knows where Ronde Barber will be playing next season

Bucs coach Raheem Morris is known for his sound bites, and he pumped up the volume Tuesday about cornerback Ronde Barber. Morris said Barber plans to return for his 15th season. The five-time Pro Bowl player and last link to the Bucs’ Super Bowl championship team is 35 and a free agent who has not reached an agreement on a new contract. But Morris said he has no doubt Barber will be the Bucs’ starting right cornerback in 2011. “He’s coming back,” Morris said of Barber from the East-West Shrine Game workouts in Orlando. “He’s playing. Now it’s just a matter of what he’s playing for. I’m really confident that he’s playing, and I feel great about it.” — St. Petersburg Times

Chiefs eye Bucs offensive coordinator?

Chiefs candidates could include Tampa Bay offensive coordinator Greg Olson and former Denver offensive coordinator Mike McCoy. But Olson has another year left on his Tampa Bay contract and the Chiefs may not be able to pry him loose. Haley said he would examine the possibility of doing the job himself again next season.
