Bucks Brandon Jennings discouraged about injury status

Bucks point guard Brandon Jennings knows his return date is getting closer as he progresses from a Dec. 20 surgery to repair a fractured bone in his left foot. “I just got some X-rays again, and everything looks fine,” Jennings said after the Bucks’ practice session Tuesday. “But they’re going to hold me back awhile. “It’s discouraging, of course. Six weeks would be next week (Monday). They just want to make sure everything is all right.” When Jennings underwent surgery, the team announced he would be out four to six weeks. Now it appears he will be out at least six weeks and possibly a bit longer. Jennings is doing some jogging and shooting and also experimenting with several shoes while trying to get the right fit. “I’m testing three new pair with my orthotics in there,” Jennings said. “I’ve still got to get a good feel of what shoes I’m going to start wearing.” “I’m running out of suits and suit jackets,” Jennings quipped about watching so many games in dress clothes. “I’ve repeated twice already, but nobody’s said a word.” Jennings had been hoping to play in his hometown of Los Angeles when the Bucks meet the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday, but he will have to practice before he can get into a game. — Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Milwaukee’s Bradley Center revenue jumps, but long-term problems remain

Thanks to a lucrative concert season and two rounds of the NCAA basketball tournament this year, the Bradley Center reported operating revenue of $14.8 million for the fiscal year ended June 30. That’s an increase of $1.6 million, or 12.1%, from the previous year. Including a depreciation expense of $2.8 million, the Bradley Center reported a loss of $2 million in net assets for fiscal 2010. That is an improvement of $2 million from fiscal 2009. The center’s Plant Fund – money set aside for improvements at the arena – declined 34.4%, from $3.2 million to $2.1 million. “This year’s financial report confirms that, while we have a stable fiscal position, the Bradley Center continues to face the long-term challenge of finding ways to generate additional revenue to meet its ongoing maintenance and operational needs,” said Steve Costello, the center’s president and CEO, in a statement. — Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Bucks not expecting Bogut on trip

Bucks star returning in February?

Michael Redd finally was back in Milwaukee on Thursday. No, not in a Bucks uniform. But at least he was in the city and at least he finally can see a possible return date following two major knee injuries in the past two years. “The goal for me is February,” the one-time star guard said in an interview with FanHouse about when he hopes to return after not playing since Jan. 10, 2010. Redd, who has been rehabbing in his hometown of Columbus, Ohio, was in Milwaukee for the first time since last March. He chatted with teammates at a Bucks practice and had the Thanksgiving event he has held for eight years for disadvantaged families. That was the primary reason for Milwaukee visit. The next time Redd returns, he wants to be taking part in a Bucks practice. He said he was cleared Nov. 8 to do some basketball activities. — Fanhouse

NBA coach: losers blame refs

The first foul against the Lakers did not occur until 8:49 remained in the second quarter, when Corey Maggette was fouled by Shannon Brown on a drive and converted a three-point play to give Milwaukee a 42-41 lead. That was the Bucks’ only free throw of the first half, while the Lakers were 14 of 19 from the line. “Look,” Bucks coach Scott Skiles said. “The losing mind-set is to look at other people to blame. That’s generally not what winners are doing. If that’s what we’re doing, that’s not a good sign. They took it to us and we had some silly fouls in the first half. We didn’t take care of our business tonight.” — Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Bucks Brandon Jennings struggling with shot

Seven games into the season, the Bucks rank last in the National Basketball Association in points per game (89.6) and 29th or second-to-last in field goal percentage (39.9%). Among the Bucks’ projected starters Tuesday, only Bogut is shooting higher than 40% from the field (51.4%). Forward Drew Gooden is shooting 39.3%, forward Luc Richard Mbah a Moute is at 39.4%, shooting guard John Salmons is at 32.4% and point guard Brandon Jennings is at 39.1%. Key reserve Corey Maggette is shooting 36.1%, Keyon Dooling 37.9% and Ersan Ilyasova 33.3%. — Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Source: Erick Dampier headed to Rockets

Houston has been just one of many teams interested in signing free agent center Erick Dampier, and HOOPSWORLD has learned that they are now going to ultimately win his services. The former Dallas Mavericks center has been pursued by a number of team, including the Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns, but the Rockets offered the best financial package, as well as a shot at being a part of a potentially-contending team. — Hoops World

Hornets coach likes Joe Alexander

Former Bucks forward Joe Alexander, now with New Orleans, was inactive for the opener. The Bucks declined his third-year contract option last fall and eventually traded him to the Chicago Bulls as part of the John Salmons deal. Alexander then signed with the Hornets in the off-season. “He’s in the gym all the time and may be our best athlete,” Hornets coach Monty Williams said. “You want a guy like him to succeed. “What I’ve talked to him about is keeping his game in a box. Sometimes he gets carried away with trying to create, trying to make plays for other guys. When you’re out there with Chris Paul, you don’t need to make plays. You need to just finish. He (Paul) will serve it up; you’ve just got to eat it.” — Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Scott Skiles happy with Bucks ownership

Bucks coach Scott Skiles received a one-year contract extension, and general manager John Hammond had the option year on his deal picked up, and both were grateful for the confidence displayed in them by team owner and president Herb Kohl. “I’m to say the least in a transient profession,” Skiles said. “When I still had two years left on my contract, it’s something the team didn’t have to do. It’s nothing I expected. “It’s nice. I enjoy working with John and I enjoy working with the Senator. We feel like we’ve got a good thing going. So why not? “We work well with the Senator and he’s given us a lot of latitude to do the things we wanted to do. That’s important.” The moves mean Skiles and Hammond will be with the Bucks through the 2012-’13 season. — Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

NBA could dump Grizzlies, Bucks?

Thus if the league were to contract in an even-numbered way, the first 2 teams to go would likely be Memphis (sustained futility) and Milwaukee (no new arena). But if the Timberwolves’ management continues to inefficiently run their organization, they may also be in serious contention for contraction. The Sacramento Kings could also be in trouble if their arena issue continues to be unresolved.  Arco Arena is aptly named, as it is one of the most Arc-haic among American professional sports facilities. — Forbes
