Muhammad Ali visits Angels

Former heavyweight world champion Muhammad Ali was slumming with the Angels on Wednesday. LA TIMES reports the boxing great made Halos star Torii Hunter a happy man with his clubhouse visit.

“It was like royalty walked in — it was silent,” Hunter said. “We’re all in the presence of greatness. Every athlete respects what Muhammad did, all the [beatings] he put on all those boxers. He’s the greatest of all time.”

After his visit, Ali posed for pictures before watching the Spring Training game from a suite.

Boxing is a struggling sport in America, Bob Arum thinks that today’s promoters are part of the problem. The Boxing Hall of Famer praised his rival Don King, according to the USA TODAY, but also took a cheap shot at younger generation of salesman in the fight game.

“There’s never been a better salesman in boxing than Don King. I worked my tail off as a promoter because I had such a measuring stick, a bar to reach. … Contrast this to the other so-called promoters today who all they can do when they get competition is whine and complain and shriek that a promoter has their fighters fighting their own fighters instead of getting out and competing against me and Don. These guys don’t deserve to be called promoters.”
