The Warriors probably can’t pry LaMarcus Aldridge from Portland or Andrew Bogut from Milwaukee. It’s unlikely they would be willing to assume the expensive risk of injury-plagued Los Angeles Clippers center Chris Kaman. — Oakland Tribune

NBA veteran doesn’t think Clippers Blake Griffin should be All-Star

Anger over LaMarcus Aldridge’s omission surfaced in Portland almost immediately at the Trail Blazers’ practice but not from the snubbed player. It was from Griffin’s nemesis, Andre Miller. A former Clipper, Miller, who was suspended for a game after smashing into Griffin, declared that the young guys were getting too much respect in the NBA. “They are putting this guy on every ESPN highlight,” he said to the Oregonian. “Yeah, it’s cool because fans want to see that, but you isolate him from his team. Especially … he ain’t made nobody better. It’s basically his rookie year, as an All-Star? LeBron James didn’t make an All-Star team as a rookie.” Miller added that he wasn’t “a hater.” — LA Times

Blazers guard thinks he could be traded?

It was Andre Miller who said in December 2009, when his name was in trade rumors, that Portland is “where I want to be” and he’s “comfortable.” He’s no longer that gung-ho about sticking around. “I don’t really care, really,” Miller said when asked in a FanHouse interview Wednesday whether his hope now is to remain in Portland rather than be traded. “You know what I’m saying? I would like to stay put, but it’s a business and anything can happen.” When asked if he believes there’s a decent chance he’ll be moved by the Feb. 24 trade deadline, Miller said, “Yeah. Yeah.” “There’s a chance,” Miller said. “A lot of guys can get moved. Where? I don’t know. At this point, hopefully it’s not a team that’s rebuilding. I wouldn’t want to go back to like a Philly situation.” — Fanhouse

Knicks eye deals with Blazers, Grizzlies

The Knicks’ main competition for a big man is said to be Orlando, which traded reserve center Marcin Gortat last month to the Suns in the deal that brought Hedo Turkoglu to the Magic. The Magic miss Gortat’s defense and board work and would like to address that area. Among big men, the Knicks are eyeing deals with the Grizzlies and Blazers.

NBA bust expected to make extra $8.8 mil?

Greg Oden, 23, is too young to be labeled a bust. That’s why the Trail Blazers are not giving up on him. They are expected to make him the required $8.8 million qualifying offer next year to retain his restricted free agent rights as long as he shows progress in his rehabilitation. “Guys like him don’t come around too often,” first-year Portland general manager Rich Cho said. “A guy that size with his presence and his ability to play both ends of the court is a luxury to have.” — Indy Star

Member of NBA All-Stars posse charged with murder?

Police identified Kevin Charles Moffett as the shooter. He’s 31. Moffett was arrested, booked into Multnomah County Jail, and he quickly hired a prominent local attorney.  There’s a memorial service pending for Ruben Mata, and friends placed lilies, carnations and a lone Virgin of Guadalupe candle on the sidewalk near where Mata took his final breath. But I’m wondering how much, or if any, of this could have been avoided had the Trail Blazers not waited so long to figure out who Continue reading

Blazers star headed to Knicks?

Blazers Brandon Roy giving rest a try

All-Star guard Brandon Roy will sit yet another week to rest his ailing left knee and will not travel with the team on its upcoming three-game trip that starts Christmas night at Golden State. Roy said he made progress during his most recent weeklong absence but is still experiencing pain — not only during games, but away from the basketball court, too.  And unlike previous injuries during his career, when Roy rushed back as quickly as possible — sometimes too quickly — he is determined to be patient with a situation that has very suddenly transformed him from an explosive All-Star into a day-to-day question mark.  “I just want to really give this rest a chance to try to get me back to where I’m feeling confident that I can come back for the rest of the year and not just a few games,” Roy said. “I think coach (Nate McMillan) and the guys understand. I don’t think it would be smart to try to push it right now when I still have a little more time to gain some rest.” — Oregonian

Blazers dealing Andre Miller, Marcus Camby?

With the Trail Blazers’ obvious struggles and the health challenges (that’s putting it mildly) of Greg Oden and Brandon Roy, two people with knowledge of the team’s strategy told CBSSports.com that Portland management is contemplating trading older players and going young. The obvious targets for such a purge would be Marcus Camby (36), Andre Miller (34), and Joel Przybilla (31). Roy isn’t old, but his knees are — though one of the sources said Portland would find no takers for the five years and $82.3 million remaining on Roy’s contract, given the state of his meniscus-less knees.  — CBS Sports
