Browns legend could land with Bengals?

Former Browns, Cowboys and Dolphins quarterback Bernie Kosar has been spotted at the Senior Bowl this week and WKNR in Cleveland reports one of the teams interested in him might be the Bengals. The station also reported last month that Kosar was being considered as a head coaching candidate at the University of Miami, where he went to school, but that was unfounded. On an interview on the station’s morning show, Kosar made no mention of working with the Bengals but said that a couple teams had invited him down. — Cincinnati Enquirer

Bengals dumping Terrell Owens

After a conversation with Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, I came away thinking Terrell Owens won’t be a Bengal next year, but Chad Ochocinco and Cedric Benson probably will be. Lewis on Benson, whose contract is up: “I’d like to have him back and he wants to be back.” Lewis on Ocho: “I expect him to play for the Bengals because he has a contract. Mike Brown is not going to cut him.” — National Football Post

Star accuses NFL of racism against black players

Bengals  stars Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens were discussing the $50,000 fine quarterback Brett Favre got for not being forthcoming in the Jenn Sterger sexual harassment investigation. Owens — rightly so — noted Favre’s seemingly preferential treatment and the discrepancy between the size of the fine and the quarterback’s bloated salary: “If it was somebody else, this right here would have been dealt with early on. What more can you get out of Brett Favre? They fined him 50 grand, that’s nothing. They just gave him 4 million extra dollars just to come back and play this year. Do you think somebody’s gonna give me an extra four million just to come back and play next year?” That’s when Ochocinco threw the race card: Continue reading

Bengals decide Ochocinco’s future?

The Bengals are sending out mixed signals on wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, so are they are going to cancel his decade-long reality TV now and go with the Sesame Street young receivers? There is a school of thought out there that believes the Bengals already exercised the team option on The Ocho and he’s under contract for ’11. That would mean there would be no timetable for a decision and if anybody is looking to get him they may have to trade for him. Plus, the Bengals are going to make sure all their ducks are healthy, lined up, and ready to go if he’s not coming back. So that may linger awhile. — Bengals.com

Former Cowboys asst could become new Bengals coach?

Bengals president Mike Brown and Marvin Lewis met throughout the day on Monday but there was no official announcement regarding the future of the team’s coach. A decision should come Tuesday when meetings will continue. If anyone was looking for Lewis to divulge any clues during that meeting, it didn’t happen. … Continue reading

Terrell Owens wants to play for good team in 2011

Where Terrell Owens, who will be an unrestricted free agent after signing a one-year deal, plays next year remains to be seen. National reports suggested earlier this week that the team has no intentions of re-signing him. Considering that Owens joined the Bengals because they were thought to be a contender and will be undergoing a rebuilding process next season, its hard to see him being back with the Bengals. Former Bengals coach Sam Wyche wants NFL return

At 65, former Bengals coach Sam Wyche’s life still is as fast-paced as the no-huddle offense of which he was an innovator. Two weeks ago, he even received a new pacemaker to help him keep pace with everything. Six grandchildren. Four rescue dogs. Six barn cats. Four horses. A 28-acre farm that overlooks the Blue Ridge Mountains in northwest South Carolina. A 30-hour-a-week county council seat. Speaking engagements across the country. Continue reading

Ochocinco not sure if he’ll return to Bengals

Bengals WR Ochocinco on next season: “I’d love to see Terrell come back next year. As far as myself, I don’t even know if I’ll be back next year. … Changes will be made and they’ll be significant.” Publicly, during his weekly Wednesday locker room sessions, Ochocinco has sounded somewhat confident about being back next year (even when others have said it is unlikely the club would pick up the $6 million option). So, this is at least the first public statement where 85 is acknowledging that a tidal wave of changes are coming. It’s also a public acknowledgement by Ochocinco that his powers of influence inside the organization are no longer there. — Cincinnati Enquirer

NFL head coach rips Pro Football Talk

A report on profootballtalk.com Sunday said the Bengals were considering making Terrell Owens inactive for the final three games due to his attitude and performance in practice and games. Marvin Lewis denied the report, which was attributed to an anonymous league source. “Pro Football Talk? Enough said. I don’t need to address it,” said Lewis. “Have I ever addressed anything in here from Pro Football Talk? No. I don’t even know where it is.” — Cincinnati Enquirer

Bengals Ochocinco could change teams?

The Bengals have lost 10 straight this season and Ochocinco might not be back with the Bengals. “Aw, man, it’s been tough,” he said. “It’s been tough just trying to find ways to continue to keep myself motivated, continue to keep myself smiling. I’m trying to be part of the solution and not the problem. I’m doing everything I can to stay positive. It’s really hard, especially when you lose week in and week out. It’s really stressful, man.” So nothing fun planned for the Browns’ defensive backs? No special celebrations for the game? “We’re 2-11,” he said. “Ain’t nothing I can do that’s going to get me motivated or to have fun, it’s backwards.” But 85, we’ve never heard you like this before. “It wears on you after 10 years,” he said. — Cleveland Plain Dealer

Bengals owner upset with Terrell Owens

Terrell Owens is on pace to collect on $1 million worth of incentives in his contract, but he infuriated coaches and teammates with comments on his Versus reality show that the 2-11 Bengals were “underachieving from the top down.” That included owner Mike Brown, the coaches and then the players before circling back to the coaching staff.  — Fox Sports

Bengals almost traded for Browns star?

The Bengals explored trading for Peyton Hillis before the Browns got him in March in the trade sending Brady Quinn to the Broncos, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis told reporters in Cincinnati. Lewis did not say what the Bengals were willing to give the Broncos. “We had a conversation with Denver regarding him,” Lewis said. “He’s a good player. He has good talent, good ability. He’s a hard-running guy, and I thought he was a good, young prospect.” — Cleveland News-Herald

Bengals Terrell Ownes won’t reach full contract incentives

After a strong first half, Terrell Owens’ production has dropped off as teams have tightened their coverage. After the Week 9 game against Pittsburgh, Owens had 55 receptions for 829 yards (a 15.1 yards per catch average) and five touchdowns. He also was on pace to reach all six incentives on his contract that would earn him $4 million for the season. Over the past five games, Owens has 17 receptions for 154 yards (a 9.1 average) and four touchdowns. He has reached two of the $333,000 incentives but under the current projections would reach only one more. — Cincinnati Enquirer

Terrell Owens: Bengals more embarrassing than Bills

Terrell Owens said he was more frustrated and embarrassed this year than last season in Buffalo. During the season the Bills fired their offensive coordinator and head coach, frequently changed quarterbacks and had a rash of injuries but finished 6-10. This year’s Bengals can break a team record for consecutive losses in the season if they fall to the Browns on Sunday. While 15 players are on injured reserve, only three of those are on offense and just one was considered to be a starter. “I would say this is not a knock on Buffalo, but you look at the talent on this team vs. the team I was on last year anybody can look on paper and see this team is much more talented than that team I was on last year but we didn’t lose 8, 9, 10 in a row,” Owens said. “I think people shouldn’t look or dig too deep into what I say, because by no means am I unappreciative. I know I am fortunate to be here with this organization with the opportunity they’ve given me to help them with the idea of getting to the playoffs.”

Colts have NFL’s best offensive line

The New York Life Protection Index was created by sports information leader STATS to provide a composite gauge for this undervalued component of the game. While the New York Life Protection Index is calculated using a proprietary formula, the fundamentals are comprised of the length of a team’s pass attempts combined with penalties by offensive linemen, sacks allowed and quarterback hurries and knockdowns. NFL star wished a happy early 50th birthday

Terrell Owens celebrated his 37th birthday at the 81 Cares Charity Bowl bash, his annual event to feed and gift 81 families in need for Christmas, the other day in Newport, Ky. Owens’ buddy and equally vocal Cincinnati Bengals teammate Chad Ochocinco threw jabs at the birthday boy, wishing him a “happy 50th birthday, TO. Because you are a lifer, you are never leaving the NFL.” Actress and TV host Adrienne Bailon also attended and took an impromptu bowling lesson in stilettos at the event. — NY Post
