NFC worst continues to stink up NFL

Losses by the 49ers on Thursday and the Rams, Cardinals, and Seahawks on Sunday marked the third time this season that all four NFC West teams lost on the same week. All other divisions together have suffered only two such weeks this season (the AFC West on Week 6, and the AFC North on Week 10). In fact, over the past seven seasons, there have been 14 weeks in which one of the NFL’s divisions went 0-4 and the NFC West has accounted for half of them.  — Elias Sports Bureau

Cardinals NOT interested in Donovan McNabb?

The biggest reason the Shanahans don’t like Donovan McNabb because he doesn’t fit their Redskins offensive system, plus he has struggled with learning it all season long. Where McNabb ends up is anyone’s guess. One team that needs a QB, but isn’t interested, is Arizona. — Fox Sports

Colts have NFL’s best offensive line

The New York Life Protection Index was created by sports information leader STATS to provide a composite gauge for this undervalued component of the game. While the New York Life Protection Index is calculated using a proprietary formula, the fundamentals are comprised of the length of a team’s pass attempts combined with penalties by offensive linemen, sacks allowed and quarterback hurries and knockdowns. The New York Life Protection Index is updated weekly throughout the regular season. — Stats Inc.

Cards can’t trade or franchise Larry Fitzgerald?

Larry Fitzgerald’s contract expires at the end of the 2011 season, and clauses prevent the Cardinals from trading him or labeling him their franchise player, which would restrict his options in free agency. So Fitzgerald has all the leverage when contract negotiations begin, probably this spring. But Fitzgerald has used all of his moves to avoid commenting on that subject, as well as how the unsettled quarterback position could impact his decision to stay in Arizona. “When I was just getting into the league, somebody told me one time that if you can accept the fame, you have to be able to deal with the blame,” Fitzgerald said. “When you are the highest-paid receiver in the game, there are expectations that need to be met.” Fitzgerald doesn’t think he’s met them. From the time the Cardinals drafted him third overall in 2004, Fitzgerald’s goal has been to improve each season. He was satisfied he had done that, until this season. — Arizona Republic
