 Baseball commissioner Bud Selig needs to support Barry Bonds as he closes in on Hank Aaron's all-time homerun record, Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith told Fox Sports Radio.
"Whether the commissioner (Selig) wants to be there or not, it’s one of the things he has to do, because of the game and the importance of it," Smith said in response to a question from Ben Maller on "Fox GameTime Live" about Bonds home run chase.
Ozzie, who played 19 seasons in the majors with the Padres and Cardinals, was asked about the fans' reaction to Bonds setting the record: "I’ll just be glad when we don’t have to talk about it anymore. Henry Aaron shouldn’t be forced to have to talk about steroids use and the effect this had on the game."
Smith asked if known steroid users should be allowed in the Hall of Fame: "If there are guys proven to have used and tested positive, no, they don’t belong."
