NBA player buys dad a church?

Michael Redd's most expensive purchase during the off-season wasn't for himself. The Milwaukee Bucks' All-Star guard signed the richest contract ever by a Wisconsin athletes this summer, one worth $90 million. But instead of going on an extravagant spending spree and treating himself to a new sports car, Redd bought something for his father, James: a church, according to the RACINE JOURNAL TIMES.

Redd bought the church in his hometown of Columbus, Ohio. Redd estimates the Philadelphia Deliverance Church - which is non-denominational - can seat around 600 worshippers.

"I believe in him,'' Redd said of his father, who is a pastor. "I believe in his ministry. He never asked me to do this. I just did it on my own.

"My father was so happy; he was blown away. And my mother (Haji) was so happy. That's what it's all about: Taking care of your parents.''
