Cartoon Network to help NCAA cut down on gambling?

The NCAA hopes to enlist the Cartoon Network and MTV in its anti-gambling ad campaign. They're watched by the youngsters the NCAA wants to reach and owned by Viacom, which owns CBS, home of the NCAA basketball tournament.

Talking with players in college could be too little too late, said Bill Saum, who heads the NCAA's anti-gambling efforts.

"We used to believe that we create the problem at the college level," Saum said. "We now believe that the gamblers are coming to us from the high school level."

"It's more widespread than I ever would have imagined," said Georgia athletics director Damon Evans, who's on a committee implementing the NCAA's anti-gambling agenda.
