Celts history up for auction?

A piece of Boston Celtics history goes on the auction block this weekend - and no one is quite sure how it happened. The Celts' 1957 Eastern Division Championship banner, which hung in the old Boston Garden, is up for bid in Exton, Penn., at Hunt Auctions. The green-and-white linen flag was won by 1957 league MVP Bob Cousy, Bill Russell and the rest of that legendary team that dominated the NBA back in the day. It's estimated to sell between $3,000 and $4,000 dollars, according to the BOSTON HERALD.
     
``Colors remain vibrant and strong with only light overall age toning,'' the catalog states. ``Lettering is double sided and remains intact.''
     
We rang up the Green Team to find out how a piece of Celtics history wound up in Pennsylvania as opposed to, say, Causeway Street.
     
``We have no comment,'' said spokesgal Farra D'Orazio.

A Hunt rep said the auction house obtained the flag from a dealer who claimed to have gotten it from a former Celtics exec.

Well, it's not like they needed it. It was replaced with a World Champs banner a few weeks later .
