The Red Sox called the Blue Jays during the winter about a deal for slugger Jose Bautista, but Toronto hung up. The BOSTON HERALD reports that Boston has long tried to get the MLB homer king from 2010.
The talks never went anywhere, because the Jays were in the process of moving Vernon Wells and his massive contract to the Angels as a means of freeing up money for Bautista’s extension. “Ever since I got here, this is a place that’s been really good to me, the city, the team, my teammates, the front office, the coaches, everything,” Bautista said. “Playing here has been a real breath of fresh air. They gave me an opportunity, found a way to get me in the lineup and helped me ultimately make the changes in my approach that led to my success. “Knowing that and knowing how much I enjoy being here and feel at home here, I wanted to stay here.”
