Cubs star Derrek Lee, who turns 35 in September, can be a free agent at the end of the year and has a full no-trade clause, which he’d have to waive to accept a deal to the Rangers. Lee is a four-time Gold Glove winner, but would be limited to first base and pinch-hitting duties. After a slow start this season, he has heated up considerably in July. He is hitting .313 for the month to push his average to .251. Lee is making $13 million this season, which leaves about $5.2 million remaining on his contract. — Dallas Morning News
