Astros Lance Berkman to Angels, ChiSox or Yankees?

Teams hoping to add a first baseman or designated hitter for a postseason run — the Los Angeles Angels, Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees come to mind — may look beyond Lance Berkman’s season struggles, which some believe stem from the fact he has little protection in the Astros’ lineup. Berkman concedes that if the team decides to rebuild, it would make good business sense to trade him now, especially if the Astros are leaning away from picking up his $15 million option for next year, which he believes is the case. “It would make sense to trade everybody you could to bring you some prospects that are major league-ready, younger guys that are club-controlled that are good players,” Berkman said. “The scenario in which it makes sense is one in which the organization determines, ‘This isn’t working. We’ve got to do something else. We need to start over.’ ” — Houston Chronicle
